i note the chassis welding aint as good as some home built cars driving around too..........

I'm sure that sort of thing wouldn't be permitted to be sold in this country would it? It's a class A writeoff, but what would
happen if it was insured 3rd party (like anyone would)? Is it still the property of the owner and they're permitted to do what they please with
it?

If the US laws are anything like ours, the owner of the car is liable for its disposal if they are claiming off someone elses insurance('non
fault' ,they are also liable for any storage charges after the date of payout.
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation
