seems like it will only measure the total toe in as the sum of left and right wheel, can't see if it would pick up one wheel toeing more than another,

Have been looking at making a stringing box for our track car but at this price if it can do front and back accurately I get one, not sure if it will do the job properly though,

As far as I understand the way it works, the only reason you would need to adjust one side more than the other is to centralise the rack/wheel for a given amount of toe on each side. If it says your 2deg out on tracking then I guess as long as you adjust with the wheel central if one side is out more than the other then you just need to adjust it by a larger amount?

I'm sure if I'm talking gobble-de-gook someone will be along to knock me down soon

Get a std laser pointer & make up a bit of wood to hold it parallel to & just away from the wheel face.
Park close to garage wall, perpendicular to wall.
Centralise the steering wheel.
Using laser on both front wheels, measure distance between spots on wall = X2
Back car away from wall approx. a couple of meters = Y.
Measure distance between spots again = X1

Your single wheel toe-in is tan-1((X1-X2)/2Y)).

Cost? £4.99 laser pointer & some 'O' level trig.
Oh- and a garage wall!

Thats exactly what i do, apart from i move the wall (a piece of wood), only problem is you really need 2 people, one to hold the laser on the wheel and one to mark the wall I made up a bit of steel with domed pan head bolts either end that sit perfectly just inside the rims, just makes sure you seat it the same each time
