iphone 4s broken screen replacement
Anybody replaced iphone 4s screen? (Not interested in other models as they are slightly different)
Watched the videos and theres a billion of tiny screws to undo, contacts to remove etc thay looks to be a right palaver, and that is before using heat
gun to soften the glue.
Was hoping the gkass can be prised out of the front but it seems a full strip down is needed.
Can understand why places charge £120+

Sympathies to you. Had the same with my galaxy S4, however after watching videos and seeing the mess people were getting with the glueing palaver, I
bought a screen/digitizer complete. The whole phone had 11 screws in it and it was really easy to do. Had it done and working in 20 minutes. The
screen/digitizer was £100, so decided to keep the phone for another year (dont do contracts) to allow me to replace the money spent. Get a new one
next year.

Try Timpsons (cobblers and key cutting chain), I think they do a screen service, we had a battery replaced by them and was significantly cheaper than
Apple.

I've done it, but i usually buy a whole screen/lcd assembly so that i don't have to mess around seperating the two.
A lot of screw and fiddly cables, but as long as you take care in seperating and storing the screws as you go, it's not that bad.
Should be able to do it first time quite comfortably inside an hour.
If you do do it yourself, i got caught out at the end. I didn't want to press the screen back in properly without turning it on and checking
first, but the screen wouldn't work, i think there's a contact somewhere, so you will have to press the screen right in before turning
back on again!

I've done quite a few. It's well worth buying a block of BluTack and laying it out in front of the phone - place each screw in the same
position on the BluTack as it is on the phone - it keeps them all in the right place!
And as someone else has already said, make sure you get the whole assembly - screen and digitiser. The two are glued together and it's almost
impossible to separate them without causing damage. Most suppliers include tools with the parts. And magnetic jewellers screwdrivers are
invaluable!

thanks for replies.
Its one of 2 iphones rescued from skip so seeing if I can repair it a locost-stylee.
digitizer screen is not as expensive as I thought, probably not more than a fiver if buying the glue, a UV torch, tools, glass front glass but is a
hell of a lot less hassle.
maybe i'll give it a go ....

I did this on an HTC phone and although a bit daunting at first it went really well and was as good as new when finished. HTC may be a bit easier than
an IPhone though.

Having done my iPhone 4S a few months back, it's much easier than you first think. The new screen and tools were something like £8 form Ebay and
I ended up with a brighter, clearer screen than before. I figured out mine had been repaired previously as three of the different screws were missing!
In all, it took me about an hour of going slowly with a beer one evening to fix it.
