To EDIS or not to EDIS (Zetec MegaSquirt Install)

After reading various topics on this subject on the forum about MegaSquirt for my zetec I enquired with Bill S about prices etc for a MSnS 1 v3 + extra coil driver as i had dissmissed using an EDIS system.

But Bill S then threw a spanner in the works by coming back saying that he normally recomends using EDIS rather than the extra coil driver.......So after receiving conflicting arguments i was wondering what the general populance of LocostBuilders thought on the subject.

I use EDIS, it does the job just fine...only problem is that it looks a bit scruffy.

I dont know anything about the coil drivers, but I know EDIS is good, so would go that route again

Unless you need to be able to use a spark cut rev limiter there's nothing wrong with EDIS. It'll be the easiest to install seeing as you've got a recent ford engine too

Thanks for the input everyone.....TBH im a little suprised that more people aren't advocating using an extra coil driver as this 'in theory' seems like a good idea

When I convert my Focus to MS I'll be using the 2nd VB921 and wasted spark setup.

But I've not got a EDIS to start with and want to keep the wiring standard, so its a simpler decision for me.

That said, if you can put all the electronics in one place and use something which is new rather than 5+ years old (EDIS) then I think thats the way to go.

My vote goes to binning the edis !!
We have been trying for a couple of months now to get our zetec running with megasquirt (albeit not a V3 board) with lots of problems.
We have now decided to go down the coil driver & wasted spark route and remove the edis. I expect to hear the zetec roar very soon after a new megasquirt arrives from Mark

My zetec started first time using a V2.2 MS board and an EDIS module. No problems at all...

I have gone with onboard coil driver. Why use Edis and have an extra thing to go wrong.

Simple is usually best. Less wiring and less components usually means less problems.
