Whats the best way to weld these on? Is there an insert that goes inside the threaded column?

For once I might be able to answer some questions!...

I believe (although the Sierra uses a hexagonal shaft) the measurement you need is 3/4"

I'm told people weld a small sleeve section over the initial weld
