Are you insured!!
Found a very interesting site, on another forum that you can check if your insurance company has put your details on the "Insured Data
Base" that the Fuzz can check in there cars to see if you have insurance. If you compay has neglected to do this, (they have seven days), then
you could find your car impounded and even destroyed, (No! Oh! yes) so worth a check after your renewal, and if not on, then a quick call to your
insureres.
Check it out
Cheers Ray

YIKES! That shows my squashed focus as insured. It was written off a year ago.
Got hit on the back corner by a drink driver, shortened the drivers side by about 2 inches, nothing opened the rear wheel was in the back seats and
under the seats was all crumpled. boot was an inch to once side at the bottom.
It had creased panels down the side he never even hit!
Must have been a good jig to straighten that out!!!

Funny you should mention this.
Hav'nt been able to renew my car tax online for a few years now. Always tells me that it can't find insurance details for my vehicle (or
something along those lines)
Was driving through town to pick the wife up when in the rear view I see the old bill with the blues going. Pull over and the pc informs me the reason
i've been pulled is that my vehicle is showing no insurance. I carry all my documents on me so give him the insurance certificate and tell him
i've had trouble trying to tax it online so that must be the reason. He won't have any of it and continues to tell me the police database
is never wrong even though I tel him it is. He then telephones tesco car insurance on his mobile and passes the phone to me to supply some details so
he can confirm the state of my insurance.
By this time all the neighbours are coming out pretending to put their rubbish out so they can have a good listen to what's going on outside
their doorsteps
I then get an apology and a statistic that 99.9% of the time the police nation computer is correct.
I asked what the score was as this could happen again and he said he would put a note on the database for future reference.
I've since wondered what the score would of been if my car was checked but I had not been present
Normal is getting dressed in clothes that you buy for work and driving through traffic in a
car that you are still paying for - in order to get to the job you need to pay for the clothes
and the car, and the house you leave vacant all day so you can afford to live in it.

Talking about insurance,i had a conversation with an insurance broker last week who is a friend of a friend so to speak.
I decided to declare all the mods on my 205 road legal trackday car.
During the talk he was telling me that sometime in 2009 the police will have access to your insurance details from there cars,so if some numpty in a
been tin with a big exhaust goes past they can check if mods etc have been declared,if not then technically your insurance company could void the
policy making you unisured!!!!
It is to stop mainly boy racer max power types insuring there cars as standard when they are modified.he also said that alot of claims are now been
checked visited by an asessor to determin if the car was as described to the insurance company.
I think the police will have a fieldday with this.

and the problem with that is.....?
Sorry, but if you fit 100KG of ill fitting fibreglass, a 'performance' exhaust, completely f*ck up the suspension by cutting 2" off
the springs to lower it, declare non of that to your insurance company and then you trash my car showing off to your 14 year old girlfriend then you
deserve everything you get.......

problem is some poor sod riding his bike or crossing the road is laid up in hospital and the insurance company is saying that they aren't
coughing up the insurance monies.
IMHO I think it sucks! Just another method for insurance companies to not pay up on technicalities.
So I for one am glad the police can at last do something about it, although I hate the thought of a police state!!!

But in that scenario the person that put them in hospital wouldn't have been insured anyway and under the proposed system the police might (and
it's a big might I admit) have got them off the road if they had the ability to get a 'Max'd' (ie shed) car off the road if it
was insured as a standard hatchback.....

The insurers would have to deal with the claim for the biker in that instance. Just not the one for the Max Power car.

Most insurers do this anyway. They monitor most of the boyracer sites in particular Barryboys.co.uk and void policies where mods haven't been
declared. In the case of barryboys it's particularly funny because it's passerbys who photo their cars and upload them on the site, so
not only does some chav have his insurance voided but he is pointed towards barryboys where no doubt he'll read 10 pages dedicted to what a
shitheap his pride and joy car is

In any event I cannot see how it would work anyway. At the time police check the database the car is insured, the insurers may have a right to avoid
cover but they haven't done so yet so the cars insured until such time as the insurers make their decision. In my experience the police take
little to know interest in such matters.

Interesting - mine came up as 'KIT CAR 2001CC TO 3500CC'
As it is was registered as an Aeon with a new registration number and all new components I am suprised it was classed as a kit car.
Cheers,

Despite what the public perception is insurers almost NEVER try to get out of paying third party injury claims. In very basic terms if a motor
insurance certificate exists with a certain registration number on it and a car bearing that number causes any damage/inury then the insurer is
liable under the Road Traffic Act. As crazy as it sounds this would apply to a learner driver who took out a policy on a modded car without declaring
the mods and drove it without supervision pissed off his face!!! - that's the extremes it goes to but that's the law!!!
Insurers do sometimes try get out of damage claims but they would almost never try duck their liability on a injury claim, especially a serious one.
In any event the MIB or FSA would probably force them to pay up or at very least act as Article 75 which means they pay then sue their scumbag
policyholder.

Mine comes up as Fisher Fury 998cc. I guess those that are odd descriptions are down to the insurance company filling in the MID details; Drop down
menu with makes and Dummy Kit Car at the bottom?!

Insurers don't like aftermarket central locking cos they assume that if it aint fitted right and you have a crash it might lock you in and
you'll burn!!

I once assessed a Lada 1500 which had a 2000 Fiat twin cam fitted and was an undisclosed modification. I commented on how good the transplant was, but
couldn't pay on the comp claim on the Lada, but paid for the damage to the car he hit.

HHmmm, my car's down as an MK Indy, but the V5 shows it as a Redliner! God knows why the builder didn't choose MK Indy when registering
it.

The car will be down as entered (and presumably described to) to the insurer, not what is written on the V5 as this isn't anything to do with
the DVLA.

Mine is a Sylva Stylus,
Last year it was insuread as a Silver Stylus.
After explaining that they got it wrong last year and spelling it out for the guy on the phone it is now a sylver stylus... Getting closer I guess. I
was told that it didn't really matter as it was just "a vehicle" to the underwriters.

So who's been "commititing an offence" by checking out other numbers?
Hmmm?
I can't say I have much confidence in that database, The Roadster comes up as "FORD ESCORT RS" , my daugters micra comes up as a
Primera and my new Volvo comes up as an 08 Vauxhall Corsa!!!
Cheers
Chris
EDIT "V8" is on a AM Vantage!

Note to all: I really don't know when to leave well alone. I tried to get clever with the mods, then when they gave me a lifeline to see the
error of my ways, I tried to incite more trouble via u2u. So now I'm banned, never to return again. They should have done it years ago!
