Bathroom electrics help

I need to change the bathoom light switch but the new one is slightly different. On the old one there is 3 wires
1. Green/yellow = Neutral
2. Red = ?
3. Black with a red band = ?

I need to know which is live and earth?

Many thanks

No neutral at the switch.
green/yellow is earth
Red is live
Black with red flag is switch wire for light.

If you think the green /yellow is neutral I'd advise you to get a sparky to dothe job. I don't mean to offend but it really can be a matter of life and death.

Like dogwood said.
Neutral is wired directly to the light fitting and you are just switching the live.

Green/yellow is CPC (earth)
Red is switch feed (permanent feed down to switch)
Black with red sleeving is switch return (live feed to light once switch is turned on)

If you have a new switch then connect as follows:

Red to common (com)
Black with red sleeving to L1
Green/yellow to earth terminal

Regards,
Lee.

Three times i've managed to connect myself to the mains due to some past dodgy wiring in places i've lived! Each time i landed on the floor i thought i will never do that again... i'm still here.

IMHO the biggest danger with lights is people think they can switch the light off and then remove the ceiling rose (where sometimes the neutrals are joined). When they do this they think everything is ok as the room they are in has the light off. However in another room a light may be on and the path to neutral has been broken. They take hold of the neutral wire and voila it's a new hairdo and a lot of cursing if you're lucky. (or worse MUCH WORSE)

Permanent live conductors are joined there too. Very dangeroo.

And to who ever mentioned them, bulbs are what you plant in the ground (around this time of year as it happens). Lamps are what you put in the light fitting.
