how tight should the metal inserts be???

1. finger pressable-inable with no sideways slack
2. vice press easy-in
3. vice press v tight fit (this is what i've got at the moment)


and the age old question - to lube or not??
have read about copper grease and white grease but don't want to do owt until i know how tight the inserts should be...

Between number 2 and 3 no grease

The bush rotates around the crush tube so it shouldn't be too tight and is also the reason stainless crush tubes are better than mild steel as they don't rust and cause the bush to bind . I ended up stripping my suspension because I got fed up with the noise, I found that my crush tubes were too short causing the bushes to bind , after skimming the outside face of the polybushes I rebuilt using rubber grease , All squeeking has now gone and the suspension now works as it should . As to should they be greased or not??? But it worked for me

Don't powerflex/superflex supply grease with their bushes? If it's good enough for them....

I was also led to believe that rubber grease was the best option. Copper grease will wear the bush over time (slightly abrasive?), Lithium grease makes the rubber hard and brittle.

But that's going off the sales pitch of poly bushes, and for all I know they could just be saying that so you buy their grease.

I put mine in with the red brake grease, worked fine and no problem in 6 years and 10K miles. HTH Ray

Or use a bit of soap if you don't want to use grease, lubes the polybushes nicely for assembly

cheers for your replies - looks like i'm gonna need to reduce the diameter of the inserts or increase the diameter of the hole in the bushes first any one got access to a lathe near south cheshire??
