Hampshire - Rivnuts & Tool to Borrow
OliilO - 5/7/13 at 12:22 PM

Afternoon,

Has anyone in the Basingstoke/Alton area got a handful of Rivnuts that I could exchange for beer/cash? I only need about 10 but the local tool place only sell packs of 100 which I'm not too keen on! Offhand, I think its M6 sized ones I need.

Additionally if anyone has a tool that I can borrow, it'd be greatly appreciated, although this isn't critical as I'm sure I can improvise if need be.

Thanks

Oli

Do you need them despately? I got some from ebay for a few quid.

Or for £20 you can get the laser kit which comes with rivnuts as well.

I'll have a look. I was hoping to get a significant amount of the car back together this weekend, but failed to plan ahead sufficiently! Its certainly not the end of the world.

Depending on where you are in Hants this lot may be worth a call linky

Loggy, no don't be silly - comes of working in an office where the temp's touching 30deg - you start repeating yourself, yourself, yourself - ooh look it's gone to 32, 32, 32, 32........

Try Alton Bolt & Tool in B'Stoke, they'll almost certainly have stock and are usually happy to sell sensible qtys

If you dont have a tool (home made or purchased) then dont bother trying to make them work btw!

OliilO - 5/7/13 at 05:16 PM

Cheers all.

It was Alton Tool and Bolt that told me they'd only sell them in hundreds when I went earlier.

Probably go for the eBay option and just leave the Rivnuts until next weekend in that case.

Thanks for all the help.

Oli

Hi
I must apologise I knew I had some left over from our build
& searched everywhere in the garage & workshop
When my son arrived home from work he informed me that he had thrown
them away awhile back.
again my apologies.
good luck
René

Hi Oli,
I have a tool and a bunch of spare rivnuts of different sizes.

I'm in Fleet and work near Reading.

Drop me a line if you still need some.

Until it one slips and spins loose in the hole. Leaves you trying to drill out a rivnut whilst not damaging the hole and trying to remove half a rivnut from a tiny hole in the chassis.

Ask me how I know.

Use a nut with a floating washer on it, and some lube. Put hundreds in like that with no issues.

Thanks for the kind offers, renetom and simonpa.
I've manage to be more organised and got myself some for this weekend!
