I'm still using some in a double ended tin that I've had since God was a lad and it works fine.

I'm still using a tin of grinding paste that I've had 40 years albeit a large tin , still as good as the day I was given it. Hope you do better than some of the so called technicians today do when attempting to lap in valves.

add a tiny bit of oil to the valve stem and a drip to the valve seat before grinding. You'll find the job a lot quicker and easier to do than with just the paste alone.

see if the old dear wont let me do it inside ...tempting fate. Ive done it a few times at work so getting my eye in now. Watch this space.

Also is it advisable to have the stem seals in when doing this or will it be alright with gides alone?

Take the seals off and make sure everything is clean before reassembling.
