Spraying

How suitable would something like this be for spraying a car?

Bosch PFS65

ehem try it on a the garden fence first, cheap spray guns rarely give nice finishes on cars

Not going to buy it if it won't do the job.....

It will give you a lot of extra work flattening between coats and the spray pattern will not be precise meaning you could get a lot of runs. These high volume low pressure setups manage to coat anything within a ½ mile radius and tend to leave a drier dustier finish. I have two similar systems in the garage and done a few repair paintjobs with them but they’ve required lots of elbow grease to finish.

As Mr Whippy says. Only good for the garden fence..

I used one of these
Ebay item number: 160312235859

(How the heck do you do that linky thing?)

Got good results.
You can pick up a 2hp compressor for less than £100. and you can use it for other things.

Speaking from real world experience of using similar HVLP sprayers they can be very good indeed.

However I think you will you don't need to spend that much money I have a B&Q one that I bought for about a quarter of the price which I have used to spray tin top bumpers using metallic base coat & clear laquer with great success.

It was so successful that when it was on a B&Q special offer last week I bought a spare unit for just under 18 quid.

Somebody else on the forum bought an Earlex HVLP system which B&Q also sell

So was it the earlex that you got for 18 quid, or the performance power one that you spoke of last year? I've kept an eye out for the PP ones but never seen one in any branch I've been to.

I sprayed a few cars with a cheaper HVLP setup and they are very good. The finish is good as long as you don't try to run the paint too thick. They don't create a lot of overspray as the pressure is low through the nozzle and you don't need to rub down between coats.

I already have a compressor but can get the Bosch unit above pretty cheaply through work and, having heard the success stories from people using HVLP electric sprayers wondered how it compared.

Reservoir looks a bit small for spraying a fury...
