Mounting engine to engine stand
speedyxjs - 27/2/09 at 04:14 PM

How on earth do you do it?

In your case isn't it more about mounting the engine stand on the engine?
Only done Vauxhalls before and that has involved the use of bolts and threaded bar and nuts.

Mines bolted on using the gearbox bolt holes with the flywheel removed.

Thanks huys, thats what i thought. The problem i that i dont have any bolts long enough. Il have to go down bandq in a mo and see if they have any.

Hung mine on existing mounting holes plus a couple of bits of thick, flat steel drilled and bolted in the appropriate places.
Just be extra careful when rotating it for the first time. The lever supplied is normally just too short unless you have it in perfect balance.
I speak from bitter experience as I nearly took my assistant's (son's) arm off when the bl**dy thing found its own lowest point!
Fortunately no major injury but could have been serious.
Cheers, Pewe

Not sure if this'll help:

Piccy

but where I've attached my chassis to the stand, just use long bolts/threaded rod to attach the engine via the gearbox flange holes as already mentioned.

I didn't think it would be man enough to do it but it really does work

If it's for the Jaguar engine and the holes are tapped, then the bolts are going to be UNF or UNC, and the chances of finding those at B&Q are very petite indeed.

If you've got holes all the way through then you'll be alright with some metric studding though.

Befor you turn the engine upside down to remove the sump, don't, take the sump off first otherwise all the cr@p in the bottom of the sump will run into the oilways and may cause damage later.
