i came across some 6 point star headed bolts yesterday when taking my mates car apart, like these
where can i get a set of sockets to remove these in future, do they have a specific name, they were a right pain to get out without the proper tools
torx bolts, you can get the sockets from halfords
they're not particularly cheap though if you just want one or two sockets
vauxhall engines seem to be made of them...

Also available at machine mart. They look pretty expensive.
Machine Mart Torx Star
yeah vauxhall use these throughout the engine, halfords will stock the sockets
external torx bits - they also do ratchet spanners with these heads at halfrauds (really not cheap tho!) which is really handy when you can't get
a socket ratchet on there (BMW use these all over the place, and you can't get a socket in around the exhaust / Diff if you need to take it off).
They get rusted to sh1t as well if they're under the car and just round off - I replaced them all with normal bolts whenever I came across
them....
Cheers

Hmm about as bad as Allen key bolts on break calipers which usually rust round inside and end up needing ground off
What’s so wrong with a normal hex bolt that they need to replace them with such rubbish designs?

yep, no matter what bolts you use, they'll all round off.
i'm actually replacing most of mine with allen bolts, just because they look neater, and are all 12.9 grade
