Morning all

After my saga with the speedo sender I thought I'd got it sussed. Quick trip out yesterday to test it and it's garbage. The set up I'm using just isn't going to work.

So went to remove the whole thing and start again. The first button head rounded inside and nothing seems to be shifting it. I can't get the next size up allen key in to force it and it's in an awkward to get at location between the seats. Grips etc slip off as the head is curved.

Any ideas for undoing a button head bolt where the hexagonal hole is rounded?

1. Bash in a splined bit and undo
2. Cut a slot in the head and use a flat blade screwdriver.
3. Mr Angry Grinder (or dremel)

If you can get at it with a hacksaw,carefully cut a slot across the top and use a screwdriver.
I have used this method with success
myself.

dremel with fine cutting disc to make a slot to use a slotted screwdriver.

or file or saw if you cannot get dremel in.

do a proper deep slot that isn't gonna muller the first time you try to undo it.

consider using impact driver as there is less chance of driver bit slipping and mullerising the slot.

Dunno how much space you have, but maybe weld a strip onto the head?

Try knocking a torx bit into it.

Another method would be to use a dot punch, drift etc . Just dot punch the edge of the button head then tilt the punch so that you are unscrewing the bolt and give it a few taps with a hammer . With care you should be able to remove bolt without damaging the surrounding area. Works on brake drum screws, steering lock shear bolts and loads of other fittings

Depending on accessibility, use Dremel, Mr Angry or file to make flats on OD of button head to suit an OE spanner - or Mole grips if desperate .

or, depending on your allen keys, buy some better ones. I have a parktools folding jobber that's undone bolts that barely even exist any more.
