After finally getting everything sorted for my build I spent some time lifting my rolling Viento Chassis up on to some heavy duty trestles.

Finally having a ultra close look at what I have bought.

I noticed with utter dismay that the rear diff is only mounted with three out of four bolts. Two on the left and 1 on the top right as you look from the back of the car. The head is snapped off the bolt sticks out perhaps past the mounting plate about 3 - 4mm. I am new to car building but I can't leave it like that which means the rear diff has to come out.

Any ideas on removing said bolt? I don't have welder but there is a piller drill at work should I need one.

Is this a Sierra 7" diff?

If it is held at the top with bolts then they are usually cap heads which are pushed through from the voided bit on top of the diff and then held with a nyloc.

The bolt should just tap out as that bit isn't threaded.

Unless you can post a picture or two to show what you mean as I might have misunderstood

edit: it might just be an original all the way through bolt, in which case the answer is still the same you should be able to knock it through as there is no thread in the alloy diff case

The problem is one is steel and the diff is ali. so might be seized in

Is it a piece of threaded bar all the way through both top mounts ? You may have just lost a nut off one end and the bolt worked it's way out. As said it should knock through as it's not threaded into the mount. Jack the diff and chock it to take the weight off and knock it through with some round bar.
