There's some good vids on youtube, looks like fun to me !
I punched in DIY casting into google and got loads of hits? Could you not have done that?
i was wanting to know if anyone on here has any tips or advice ,
sorry for asking seabass ffs
i looked and could not see much on youtube and could not find any books on ebay on it so i tryed here
lol google... the same could be said about most questions asked on a forum
hmm, sounds like a good project!
when i was a school we learned a bit about casting, and the rough shape is usually cast into sand, then polished/refined by hand i think. don't
know if wood might just burn?
My mate made a back yard foundary from plan on the internet. he is moving away soon and offered it to me. He has made a handful of things in aluminium with good results.
was hoping somone would say you could use plasticine or somthing like that to make a mold the thought of it exsploding and spraying all over me is at
the front of my mind .

you will probably struggle making a mould from wood, the temperatures involved even in aluminium casting will probably set your mould alight.
also with a mould remember you have th get it back out, so chamfer any edges etc.
Gaz 1977 did our locost badges, search him out or u2u him, I'm sure he wouldn't mind. Really pleased with mine, here
is the linky from the original thread
Cheers

Sand casting is perfect for your needs, there's some good instructional vids on you tube.
There's a decent basics instructional video on youtube here it's in 8 parts.
this site is a mine of information, all you will ever need
thanks guys
Secret of sand casting is to get the sand really dry and well packed.
Any moisture will cause bubbles, just play you blow torch over it for 10 minutes before pouring in the molten ali.
Try lost wax casting using soap for the mould and look how to make green sand here unless you know someone who works in a foundry who can get you some air set sand.
