Which Primer?

Zinc coat primer or Red Oxide?

I'm doing a mild restoration on a chassis thats in not bad condition after 18 years and all the nice shiny stuff that comes out of the electrolysis bath needs good protection.

Whats the ultimate? Red oxide or zinc?

Zinc, used some on my golf and its fantastic, red oxide never looks nice imho...

I agree - I've used zinc primer on Alfas in the past and it seems very good.

zinc anyday, then a good dose of waxoyl or dinitrol

Acid etch
I use a zinc primer but only when I want a weld-thru type primer. Otherwise it's Upol #8 for me everytime.

I always use Zinc 182 primer on any bare metal, and it never rusts, but then I haven't tried red oxide since we used to use it on barns at the farm, it might be just as good!?!

isn't red oxide just rust?.....
