I plan to weld 50 mm OD stainless pipe but the pipe on the R1 can is 60 mm OD.
Is it ok to put the smaller pipe inside the can and then use strips of stainless bent into a circle to pad it out or am I better getting the 50 mm
flared out so it is a tightish fit inside the other pipe and then weld that (no packing pieces)?
How did you do this if you had the same problem?
BTW I have MIG.
BTW 5.5 mm is perfect for drilling the rivets on the can end covers.

Scribe a line on the 50mm pipe and go round it a couple of times with the welder to build up a 4mm bead all round, then slip on the 60mm pipe and
finish the weld

Which R1 can have you got? If it is a titanium one you won't be able to mig it.

I can sell you an adapter that is a made to fit inside the original pipe and just needs welding and will adapt to 2" pipe

not titanium - adaptor, good idea but I am trying to avoid any joins if possible, will bear that in mind though.
did you TIR or MIG weld that - looks very neat.....

The adapter is very good fit inside the orginal, and you need to run round it with the tig. I've tried to mod the titanium can with stainless
adapters but the welds just end up cracking. The only way I managed to do one was to make an adapter that fitted the inside of the can inlet and was
held in place by the rivets that hold the alloy covers on
