Ive asked on here before about which impact wrench to buy and i thought id decided on the clarke 240v one, got the catalogue through the post and was going to get it tomorrow on the vat free day when i realised it says max bolt dia in their catalogues.
Why is it that it claims 450nm torque but says max bolt dia is M12, whereas the dewalt i was considering is 440nm and max M20? even the clarke cordless says M20, Where do you reckon they get these figures from? I really dont want to be disapointed, but the dewalt is a big stretch?

I can't see the bolt size has any bearing on the capability of the machine. The force it can apply or the weights it's throwing at the anvil, as well as the stubborness of the bolt will dictate the outcome!

couldnt agree more on a siezed up bolt, but which one is the most powerful then, the one with highest claimed torque, or the one that can do biggest bolt dia? Theres a big difference between an M12 and an M20, its like theres another factor that they dont say about, but even the wattage is higher on the clarke, ive just got a feeling im going to be disapointed

is it anything to do with the size of the biggest socket?

I did wonder that, but some come with upto 23mm socket and claim M20 and some no sockets at all, so i dont think it can be. Ive just sent an email off to machine mart so ill post the answer if i get one

forget the clarke on, batteries dont last at all, save your cash and hunt ebay for a snap on one.
i did then all i had to do was get a new battery off the snap on website £300+ impact gun for £90

i have got the dewalt. it was worth the money if you look around the web you can get the dewalt for around £300 which is cheeper than the machine mart vat free price

For £300 I'd be tempted to buy a compressor and an air impact gun.

£300 is a lot more than i wanted to pay, its the mains powered clarke one for £50 i was looking at or the dewalt dw292 at about £130. Anybody got either of these? Thanks

I've been fairly underwhelmed with air impact guns so far. I've got a fairly decent Sealey v-twin compressor 3hp 50litre and >10cfm FAD but even with a decent ish MAC tools rattle gun my 24v one is better. Also borrowed a mains £10 special (Aldi/Lidl jobbie) rattle gun from GeoffXT on here and that was better.

I'd like to check out a dewalt / snapon battery one to see how much better it is.

My 24v one is basically identical (mouldings completely the same) as the Clarke CIRC24 but was about £60 instead of £80/90.

I've also found the torque figures quoted quite misleading - much talk of "chinese" NM around is probably correct.

I have a dewalt and love it ,came with 2 batteries and they charge up in less than an hour ,they fit the radio to.
