I second the step drill recommendation. I bought some during previous offers at Aldi and picked up a couple more sets when I found them reduced a few weeks later.

They are great for drilling larger diameter holes without having to change the bit in the chuck in order to go up the sizes. I've done a fair bit of drilling 12mm holes in 3mm plate and they stand up well.

Machine Mart charge about forty quid for the same gear. Some of the Aldi offerings are a bit rubbish quality wise and I'm trying to wean myself off buying cheap tools but the step drill sets are good.

I have one of those. Works fine, however the soft starter gave it away. now it is only hard starting. Dangerous for your fuse and dangerous because of the movement when starting. Another con is that the lock for changing discs is not up to it's job. Now I have to us a spanner.

Edit to say it's quite heave too. Suitable for heavy building jobs. Not so much for working on your car...

I'll third (or fourth) the step drills, brilliant and make life so much easier. I'll be buying some more for when the current ones are knackered.

Jacko, you're being quoted by Aldi:

I saw this today too when shopping.
Are Jacko or ChrisW getting royalties? I think we should be told.
