New Mig
flak monkey - 7/11/09 at 06:55 PM

Picked up my new mig yesterday.

Its a Lincoln SP170I 30-175 amp machine. About 12 months old so still has another 2 years of warranty.

It uses a plug in torch, which I have managed to find direct fit ones from the US for about £75 inc courier. The one thats I have at the moment uses consumables unique to Lincoln.

I intend to swap the torch for something with more readily available spares.

The commonly available one is compatable with Tweco parts. Does anyone know if these are the same as Binzel as well?

The other option is to fit a euro connector to the front which will allow me to fit any readily available torch I liked.... but this will require a fair amount of work and mods to the front of the case.

So the choice is any euro or Tweco... what would you do?

tweco parts are not interchangerble with binzel parts. I've had tweco torches on some of my machines they are good robust torches and getting spares should'nt be a problem, any good welding consumable supplier should stock. m.

How long do we think it is before Flakmonkey discovers it is 110V mains ?

and the flux capacitor looks like it is on it way out.

BTW - you have invalidated the guarantee by taking it apart.

re: torches - Euro is easily obtainiable in UK - find out how much to convert to that compared to getting replacement torch.

Lol, its defo 240V, the American version is as well . 240V 20A supply required...no probs.

Its a damned heavy flux capacitor, I reckon it will be ok

Spent a bit of time fiddling around and found the neg connection was loose. Looked a little discoloured! Fixed now, though I could do with a new 1/4" UNC wing nut.

I went for the Lincoln as they have a good rep, and the wire feed looks a lot better than the competition.
