Polisher heads for aluminium?
David Jenkins - 20/12/09 at 07:59 PM

Father Crimble is bringing me a nice sander/polisher for Christmas, so I've been looking at the accessories I'll need.

At the moment I can see 2 jobs for it in the near future:

Sanding off old paint on my scuttle, then flattening down filler prior to repainting - what sort of grit number should I get for the sanding disks?

Polishing the aluminium panels of my car - I can see 3 different types of foam pad, white (hard), blue (medium) and red (soft). Which works best with metal polish?

i only use white with g3 and a little water, and that works well on paint too....them go over by hand with a dry polishing cloth

for sanding off paint, you'd be better doing it by hand to be honest.

So it looks like any of the foam heads will do the job!

As for sanding - I'm just removing the paint around lots of redundant holes in my scuttle, before filling and repainting. I could do it by hand - but hey! when I've got a machine, why not use it!
