Welding lawn mower deck
trextr7monkey - 7/2/10 at 08:45 PM

Next door neighbour has asked if I can weld a bit back on the bottom of his lawn mower deck. It is some sort of self propelled Honda job. Happy to help but just a few thoughts.
He has emptied the petrol tank and the heat will be short and sharp and well away and I'll do it outside, just wondered if there's anyother precautions necessary?Don't fancy frying any fancy electrics etc

Opinions welcome
Cheers
Mike

I welded the desks on both my ride-on and my push along mowers last spring, no problems working outside.

If it is a ride-on mower the cutting deck can be detached from the mower.
If it is a push along or self driven it should be good enough welding outside. As you have already said, there's no fuel in it and the tank is far enough from the deck.

Ditto, may fry the electrics if connected and fumes are explosive.

Yep I bet it is...I get to weld a mower that's two hundred miles away......It comes to my workshop in broken chunks and the repaired bits get taken back to Ireland every-time my mate goes to their second house.

Ive never seen the whole machine but have pretty much welded the steering mech the seat and the deck....the blades and the rear cover the grass collector frame...the list goes on

OK thanks for that I had wondered about a battery,

I'll investigate fully when he drops it off

If it's the deck that needs welding just take it off to do it.

Mine is held on by about 5 'R' clips and pins that's it.

ha ha, guy over the road from me is a gardener, he asked me to weld part of the deck on one of his hondas last year.

make sure you get all the old grass out too!
i managed to set his on fire thought i got it all out, but there was some hiding. only a small fire and no damage done, but watch out!
