just got my £10 silverline spray gun off ebay, had a look at a few bits on it, decent quality, though one of the adjustment screws wouldn't turn,
took it out and some of the threads came off with it. works fine now though
took the nozzle off the end, and the air nozzle is full of oil?! that can't be right... should i leave it, blow loads of air (and thinners?)
through before using it, or give it a proper take apart cleaning?
Oil (Particularly silicone based oils) will ruin the paint, even the slightest amount.
Paint shops at manufacturing plants would throw it out straight away, and they cleanse the whole spray area if they find silicone oils anywhere near
it.
It causes fisheyes that wont go away and need rubbing back and respraying.
Clean it thoroughly.
I doubt it's silicon based (this would render all cheap guns usless (mine was the same, not used so still might be bad news))... but you will
need to clean it well.. I expect some flushing with thinners will remove..

^ yeah, its brand new so would be a bit silly of the manufacturer to fill it with unsuitable oils
heres how much i got in a quick wipe
Description
quite a lot!
i'm thinking carb cleaner (checking theres no silicone based crap in it) then soak in thinners
Like the butterfly kitchen roll
Doesn't look right to me (the oil that is)- I know little about spraying paint but even I know that oil and paint don't mix....

I expect its 1) coolant from manufacture, 2) oil to stop o-rings perishing in storage (and someone has over done it!)...

nah, they're actual butterflies. squished on to kitchen paper
my cheap machine mart spray gun had none of that... wonder if i should send a email to silverline, asking what its all about?
it seems to be in the air ways rather than paint ways. i'll blow some thnners through later and see what happens
cheers
It'll just be to stop rusting in transit, wazzing a bit of celly thinner through it should sort it out but at £10 for a gun I wouldnt say its
going to be good quality.
Cheers,

That looks like olive oil. The one I got didn't have anything in it but I always blow some neat thinners through to look at the fan pattern so it should get it when you do that. If it's only for component spraying I wouldn't worry about it, mine is left in the shed in a box and then used and it's never rusted yet.
cool, i'll have a sniff of that tissue (its in the bin, but hopefully not had anything rotten on it) and see if it smells like olive oil. i'll make sure i stick the nozzles etc in thinners too before i use it might be an idea to put a few drops down the air inlet and blow that through too?
