bought one the other day, got some 1.6mm wall ali tube, but how far should the 'bead' stick up to be effective? it doesn't seem to stick out much

was maybe thinking about drilling 2 or 3 equally spaced holes and sticking a pop rivet in instead

I've not heard of an oyster beading tool before, do you have any photos? tried google but that returns beads for jewellery and dresses etc.

Stupid newbie question but the beading stops the pipes blowing off when connecting rubber/silicon hose to metal pipe? When used in conjunction with some sort of jubilee clip?

yep, the bead stops the clip pulling over the end of the pipe

I use thin nylon thread that is impregnated with JB weld. Rough up the pipe a little, mix up the JB weld, dump the thread into it, then wind the thread around the pipe.

Nice and easy.

it doesnt need much height to keep it in place. If its too high it will make a stress ring in the rubber hose.
Once you slot it the tool is able to do complete ring.
And yes you will need a jubilee clip to retain the hose in place.
Ps use good quality ones and not th halfords ones made of chocolate.
They are keeping some very vital fluids in check..that when released burn scald and catch fire rather quickly.
