Hi All,

I'm getting about tuning my Megasquirt install, but I've got a problem. The car is sitting in my garage and even with the door open, I can still smell the build up of exhaust gases when the car is running. My thoughts are to build and extraction fan to remove the gas, something like they use in the MOT stations, but being a tight Scotsman I'm looking for a locost solution to do this. Any ideas.

erm, push it outside?

or radiator (or house fan) fan in a cardboard box (that is just bigger than the fan) with a ducting from the exhaust to the box. box sits outside.

or even just ducting round the exhaust, leading outside? tumble drier type stuff might do?

I would get a radiator fan from the scrapper.... fiver... then some cardboard and duct tape...

I would but:
a) it's Scotland, it rains every half hour or so
b) My drive is on a slope, so getting it back it when it starts raining is a real pain (see point a)

get the silver extractor hose they use in take aways and build an end to fit on your exhaust.

that should push out the fumes. i have one sat in the side of my garage which i just use to get rid of exhaust gases occasionally.


it doesnt need a fan as it blows out well enough.

if you try get it to blow out toward a open area it gets sucked out and keeps my garage clear.

i uses the end cap with a hole in to tread the exhaust into.

gets warm but not boiling.

I just used the back of my hand to wipe away the tears when I started with mine, gave up when I couldn't see any more...

Pay a Polish lad to waft a bit of cardboard about.

I have the same problem as living here means as soon as you get the car out into daylight it rains!

I use a length of heavy duty rubber pipe - pushed onto the end of the exhaust and trail it about 5 feet out the garage door - seems fine and lo-cost.

Open the door and only work when its windy out

I'd be careful tuning it with any kind of exhaust extension on it as it might introduce back pressure, therein changing the tuning.

I'd personally get a nice big centrifugal fan and site that near the exhaust. Some aforementioned flue liner to take the gases from the centrifugal fan out outside and voila.

Cheap bathroom/kitchen fan and some plastic drainpipe and ducting.
