AC-DC Tigs
flak monkey - 7/8/10 at 06:46 PM

I will be needing an AC-DC tig for the next project and am looking for suggestions/recommendations.

Dont want to spend a huge amount and would rather buy secondhand industrial than new cheapo stuff.

Most welding will be on up to 5mm steel and 3mm ali....

Any recommendations?

Thanks,
David

Do you have a 3-phase source David? If so, then the world is your lobster!

I've been looking at machines for the last week and there have been quite a few brand-named 3-Phase AC/DC Tigs going on eBay for £600-700.

Certainly do 100A per phase

As far as industrial machines go three names spring to mind; Murex, Lincoln and Miller.

I have a Miller Dynasty, which is an inverter type.
As well as being a good work shop machine it's reasonably portable and runs off 110v, 240v or 3 phase.

A water cooled torch is a must IMHO.

Like all work shop tools, if it's any good it isn't cheap.
