Making a Hydraulic press
JH - 21/6/04 at 12:50 PM

I'm planning on making one using a bottle jack like this

I'm quite happy making something similar but having seen some of the good guides mentioned on here, I thought I'd ask if anyone knew any good links regarding this.

I've had a quick search but all the guides I've found that you don't have to pay for look like pretty poor efforts which I wouldn't waste my time or safety building.

Cheers in advance for any help

Cool!

I made one myself using a hydraulic bottle jack upside down. It is necessary to dismantle and adapt the jack, otherwise it won't work upside down.

With this construction I needed less material and the press works better. I will post some pictures later.

They've got a new 50 tonne press at work, have had it for some time, and as soon as they can decide which parts of health and safety legislation they have toi adhere to about placement and fixing I'm gonna try and blag the old 10 tonner which wasn't man enough for the job

Really really stupid question, but i can't think of a reason why you might need a press fo this type when building a kit or 7?!

can someone please enlighten me?!

or is it just a handy thing to have?

Ned.

I think there is scarcely a reason to have one when building a locost. At a certain moment I decided to make one, although it may be useless...

But that's not the only purpose. Think about replacing wheelbearings or something like that.

Well, I made one. At least it kept me off
the streets.

I must have used it for something. Rescued attachment press 004s.jpg

Ah, I remember.

Oval to round pipes (exhaust manifold)

Suspension brackets

Engine mounts

25 x 12 ali bar round my bell housing

Wishbones

I'll think of some more in a minute.

Some very nice work there. Another tool that becomes indispensible after you've used it and start to realise the possibilities.

Does anyone know where to get the pipe bending attachments from?
