Side Cutters/ Wire Cutters
dan8400 - 5/1/11 at 02:23 PM

I'm after some really good quality cutters for 12 guage wire weldmesh. We use alot of this and get through alot of pairs of cutters. Have been using ones from screwfix with double levers in the handles. Really good until blunt then throw away.

Could really do with levers in the handles (sort of between the handles and the head) only place I can find them is Halfrauds.

I need a supplier for these OR I need to find an air powered set of cutters but havent found any yet

Any ideas?

Thanks
Dan

EDIT: there are plenty of side cutters around WITHOUT extra levers in the handle / head. These are no good (thought I should point this out, thanks)

Hi balidey

just rang up about those... going to be £689 + VAT + carriage!! Seems far too steep. Most air tools are cheaper than that surely

GULP, I wasn't expecting that price

or what about tin snips? they are usually compound handles?

Tried a set of those and they dont cut our wire mesh unfortunately. They cut sheet aluminium really well. Ask my Tiger

What about an air nibbler?

Again not sure if it would cope or if it would be 'handy' enough if you know what i mean.

Sorry, I must sound like a difficult man to please. I'm not normally this femanine!! lol

Should be something here that will do the job?

How thick is 12gauge wire ? My Snap On Linesman pliers cut 3mm welding rods easily . Now about 20 years old

RazMan - 5/1/11 at 08:05 PM

I was going to say that Snap On do some lovely cutters - guaranteed for life too

Snap on would get my vote, but remember there garantee doesnt cover wear only breakages.

If its mesh your cutting what about an air cut off tool?

Peteff - 6/1/11 at 10:34 AM

I have a couple of pairs of Knipex end cutters that have been used for cutting everything from welding rod to nails and bolts up to about 4mm thich. They are not cantilever action but they don't need to be.

Have you tried a small pair of bolt cutters.

Trying to speed up the process. Bolt cutters are a bit slow.

We use 12 guage mesh in 6' rolls. We make up to 30 cuts a day through this hth

Thanks

Just found these. That is exactly what i'm after.

Tried their website but they only sell some dodgy side cutter conversion

Linky to air cutters

The only ones like these i have seen for sale are mentioned above and are really expensive (£689 + VAT + carriage)

Thanks
Dan

Use the angle grinder with a slitting disk to cut it.

Confused but excited. - 6/1/11 at 03:01 PM

Easy to do but leaves really dodgy burrs on the cut ends.
If you are cutting 6' wide rolls 30 times every day, surely feeding the roll through a guilotine would be better.

dan8400 - 6/1/11 at 03:30 PM

Yes a guillotine would be good. What size and where could I get one and also cost? Great suggestion though
