are welder swan necks interchangable?

I tried to take the tip out of my welder today but it just sheared off leaving half in the swan neck. Are different brands interchangable? If I go down to my local tool shop tomorrow after work and they don't have a clarke one, will SIP or someone elses fit?

They were on my old clarke welder, just a grub screw holding the tube in the brass valve assembly, a SIP swan neck was fine.

You could run a 5mm drill into the end, then clean out the broken bit and end with a 6mm tap. Most of the home/hobby/small industrial migs use standard 6mm thread tips. Had to do this recently myself.

Cheers,
Nev.

Some DIY mig use 5mm thread tips, proper ones use 6mm which are a lot meatier. Drill it 4mm and tap it.

Funnily enough had the swan neck give out on my welder yesterday (a clarke 150), picked up one from machine mart and it went in no probs. Hope that helps!
