Has anyone tried fitting a Stihl Saw blade to a chop saw? I’m interested to know if it’s at all possible before spending the money on it and also if it can be done, what sort of power output should the chop saw have?

Metal cut off saws tend to be 1700w and higher with blade rpm round 3500rpm+. Any lower and you might be struggling to cut steel.

Graceland used a wood chopping saw (with wood chopping blade!!!! ) to cut a lot of his.
I spotted it in his pictures and was a little concerned- but before I got a chance to say anything he said not to worry- he wouldn't be using anymore..... the blade had exploded!

Yeah, by stihl blade I'm referring to the abrasive wheels fitted to stihl saws for cutting stone and metal. They're available in 12", 14" and 16" sizes.

I was thinking about getting a cheap chop saw and fitting an abrasive wheel (if possible) to cut the remainder of my 16SWG box section. Until now it's all been cut and filed by hand and it's taking ages.

I suppose I just want to know if it's possible to fit that type of blade to that type of saw and how effective it would be?

I have used a 350w chop saw with a wood blade to cut 50mm x 50mm x 2mm alu angle before, but wouldn't try it with steel.

I have been using a standard wood compound miter saw with an 10 inch abrasive blade to do all of my cutting- enough to go through probably 5 blades - the bearings are starting to make some noise but it has more than paid for itself.
