so you want to make a 50mm long threaded bar , but do you want it 6mm, 8mm or 10mm thread ?
you seem to quote all 3 in your post ??
apologies if its just me being thick !
Ray
I actually want it tapered from 8- 10 mm
for some reason (fosters!) i put 6mm in the header !
Turn the taper then cut the thread.
Of course if you ain't got a lathe, you is knackered.
Then again you could pay Flak to do it. Sorted.

You'll need to mount it between centres with the tailstock offset. Drive the other end off a dog and cut the taper and follow it with a thread tool.
Thanks for the replies, but as i seem to have mislaid my lathe!!
I will conceed, and say i failed,
Im more intriged to know why he wants it?????

More of a challenge when he asks you to make the tapered nut to fit it - lol
When you ask him what its for don't forget to tell us too.
If it was really important I could do that for you. I have a CNC lathe. That said...what an effort. Taper threads are usually very short - why so long?
