Does anyone know the difference between these 2?

I've been after one for a while but the second one has been sold out for ages. Is the first one an upgraded version?
Cheers,
Neil
Make one
A piece of steel tube welded to a bar / handle , then put a 8mm bolt though the tube thick 8mm washer rivnut
place it in the metal and nip with a socket gun or spanner easier with the gun
we make them at work
use 6mm bolt for 6mm rive nuts
jacko
I used this guide for one - had to do a 10mm rivnut which I didn't have the mandrel for for my tool...
linky
Took me all of about 10 minutes to make the tool, and worked a treat - given that I was upside-down under a van, probably even easier to use than the
proper tool I've got...
first one is the new model. its better than the old one. the major difference is that the threaded mandrel bit on the old one was a custom part and if snapped had to be ordered from memfast where as the new on uses a high tensile cap head bolt as the threaded mandrel so if you snap it you can get a new cap head bolt from anywhere.
The one in the first link was my Xmas prezzie from the wife. Bless her.
I like the idea of a standard 12.9 cap head as the mandrel.

I just ordered this one a couple of days ago: http://www.lasertools.co.uk/item.aspx?item=336&cat=153 as I wanted one down to M3 size, paid less than £22 posted too. Should hopefully arrive soon, will post up results shortly after.

Hi Neil.
I haven't used it yet but I'm impressed with the way its made.
Very heavy and solid.
Many years ago I used a similar designed tool at work but that had a tee handle
that after 20 or so riv nuts made your hand sore. I filed flats on the shaft and used
a spanner on that, so it looks like the ratchet spanner that comes with this one
will get used on the 6 & 8mm size nuts.
I have a job next week mounting stuff on the inside of some van doors so that
will be it's first proper job.
Cheers

Hi Neil,
Just need someone in the south west to buy one and that's the whole country covered then.
I did use a tiny dab of copper grease on the mandrel.
My thought was that it will save wear on the mandrel thread, and coat the inside of the riv-nut.
Can't do any harm.
Cheers,
Paul G
