Looks very similar to the one I got off ebay, minus the sticker. Not had any issues and it's had some fairly hefty engine/box combos swinging from it.

For that price you could cash it in for scrap and get your money back. Unless it drops something heavy on you. Then you'll have to get someone else to take it to the scrappys for you.

well worth a punt I would say at that price. I too have the Clarke one and it's been fine.

with any lifting gear it's best not to get underneath what ever you are lifting and it's probably the mounting or the fastening to the item which breaks not the block itself.

Good to know! Now just need to work out how to mount it to a half 'I' beam. Might have to dig the welder out!

I got a chinese version cost me £20 s/hand. Well worth it.
The chain hoist will givev you better control when lifting / lowering.
I used to use a block and tackle / rope job, which worked, but you cant let go of the rope and the load still stay in the same place with that. The chain hoist is a big leap forward!

Just make sure your I Beam and its supporting pillars are up to the job.

Looks interesting but will it work on half an I beam. here's a diagram to show the profile of the beam

One tip is to fix up a plastic bucket for the endless hoist chain at a convenient height, if you leave it free it tends to flail about when lifting and can bash into panels/powdercoat causing no end of swearing

Would it not be better and cheaper to use 2x scaffold poles and the weld together at the ends using box and make a slider.

The beam's already in place so whatever I do that's the starting point. Or am I not understanding something?
