Hi

I have a 230x30mm cross cutting mitre saw originally bought for some building work, and now I want to do some work on my fury. As such, I need to cut some tubing accurately, but don't seem to be able to find metal cutting disks to fit it.

I have a theory:
1) it's a conspiracy, and 30mm centers are only for wood, concrete, tiles, abrasive cutting like that.
2) there's something weird with the centre diameter, and only 22mm centers will do

I can easily put in a 22mm washer, and my Titon saw has a cut-out in the clamping cup for this.

Am i missing something, or do I just need a washer and a disk?

i dont know specifically about this, but some blades or saws do use inserts to adjust teh size of the centre bore.

Or, some people say that the 'rage' cutting blades work on metal fine. These may even be more accurate than the abrasive ones.

Is the chop saw spinning at the correct speed for the metal disks? I thought wood and metal (rage excluded) span at different speeds.

what i did on mine....i got some "slightly used" steel cutting discs,i belive they start out at about 12",used a short piece of arc welding rod to make a ring to take up the difference in diameters between the shaft and hole in the disc.
the discs need to be used or they are too big to fit the chop saw,like you said,they are made like that so you cant use the wrong disc.....but failed to account for the bodging skills of us locost builders

2nd for the Rage saw/blade, but make sure you clamp the work piece down very well to avoid it kicking up and cut slowly. If you look at the Rage multi purpose discs the tooth profile looks very odd - it looks like every other tooth is backwards. In practise I think this is designed specifically to stop you cutting too fast and simply jamming or breaking teeth of the blade as you cut through metal.




Looking at the Rage range of blades they have some different abrasive and fine tooth variants for different materials, but the issue with using a normal mitre saw will be the lack of speed control to suite different tasks.

Machine Mart and others sell proper metal chop saws for sub £100 - might be a better bet if you have lots of accurate cutting to do as anew blade on it's own will be £30+

Rage blades are very good for both but the teeth are quite different from a wood disk. The shrapnel they spit out
when cutting steel is rather hot though

I've bought 9" x1.5mm cutoff blades in the past. I'm after some now.Don't know about the spigot size though.

i guess its the silverline thing like i have. you can get them from machinemart.

I bought them on offer for 4.53 for 2 packs of 2.

I can't find evolution rage disks with 30mm centres, so I have a solution: There's lots of cut-off disks at 230mm x 22 centres rated at 80m/s.

My chop saw spins at 4600 rpm, which on a 230mm center is approx 56 m/s.

So, off to machine mart to buy some - I'm sure I've got spare 22mm washers about the place.
