Dolly's are illegal unless you are a breakdown company.

Not Illegal, but with very limited used ie first line recovery, but not for onward transporting of vehicles

From what I read the towed car has to be road legal if two or more of the wheels are on the ground. Rules out use for race cars etc.

the car is road legal . i just though it may be an option getting the car to track days .

thanks

This issue has been covered many times over the years on several sites and I'm still
to find a definative set of legislation.

"All four wheels on floor therefore it has to be taxed, tested and insured."
"An unbraked trailer must be less than 750kg."
"For recovery purposes only".

So is the towed car now a trailer ? Trailers don't need TT&I so straight away there's a contradiction.
Surely if they're regarded as safe for one mile then why not 50 ?
Even a lardy Seven will be under 750kg.

I have even consulted the local traffic police who couldn't give me an answer.

I've used an A-frame for many years on many vehicles both for recovery and transport and only
once been stopped and that was because the lightboard was on the rear screen not at the very
back of the towed car. Put the sideslights on and they let me carry on. They also were traffic police.
I always use the 90 or Disco as the tow vehicle and on the occasions where the towed weight is
likely to be an issue I have someone sit in the towed car.

un-braked trailere must be under 750kgs or 1/2 gross weight of tow car. whichever is less. so a kit and trailer is going to be borderline at best.
my trailer is un braked and i reckon my car is 600kg+ so i think i need to buy some brakes. althougt it tows really well, never gets out of shape and i dont know weight of trailer. apart from i can lift it off the groung on my own at the rear. but in theory id say its over 200kgs
