Compact welding set up

I'm after a compact, portable, set of gas welding gear, anybody had any experience of them.

I know they won't be as economical as larger kit, but I want it for track days as an emergency measure.

If you have trackside power, then inverter fusion tig is really compact and robust.

Personally I think you would be better off with a small Honda generator and mig/tig invertor.

Carrying a gas set is not going to be great, if you are at any proper track you get electric in the pits.

I expect it would be the rental that would kill it, otherwise the oxy/ace are the same you just have less of them so with a half good torch the welding is the same as a larger set.

Else, Im very happy with my esab inveter mig set.

A small generator will not power a welder. I have a Kemppi generator friendly welder and the minimum recommended is a 5Kva with 8Kva the preferred output. I have a BOC Portapak oxy-acetylene which is probably more like the original idea. It is handy but nowadays is only used for heating stuck fixings and welding the occasional really thin metal.

I LOVE gas welding, such an art to perfect, but I was under the impression that the required safety certs etc pretty much ruled out DIY use above MAP type gases?
