what thread?

I measure 4.46 mm maj diameter and around 50 tpi ..... so it not metric, nor any standard imperial size I can find so what can it be?

(It is the threaded part of the plunger on a set of Hayes mountain bike disc brakes)

Plenty of taps and dies available on eBay if you need to make/repair the parts.

that is an odd size - even my trusty zeus tables don't list it -- whats it for ?
(they do list the course version M4.5x0.75 ~34tpi)

If it's part of the brake plunger, I'm guessing it's a fine thread to enable accurate adjustment ?
