I am making an Avon chassis fromthe Tiger plans, but I now have a problem with trying to bend the suspension brackets. Can anybody make any suggestions as to how to bend 40mmx3mm strip and get tight bends. I did think of buying some box section and cutting it down but I can't find any 46mm with 3mm walls.
The crush tubes are usually 44~ 44.5 and with 2 x 3mm wall thickness fits a 2" box section perfectly. I assume you are using the rally design
supplied crush tubes and poly bushes?
David
I made my suspension brackets out of square tubing (3mm thickness). Remember to cut out the seam side of the tubing. Anothe option is to cut the flat stock with a hacksaw, not through but leaving a 1mm thickness, whiich you can easily bend, and then weld the remaining slot. Not pretty, but quick and effective (I´ve made dune buggy uprights out of 6mm stock using this technique with no problems).
I was in the same position as you, I couldn't find any way of bending the metal and even cutting up 20 brackets from square section seemed to be a major job. So I bought them from Dave at Rogue Engineering (http://www.ebay.co.uk/bhp/haynes-roadster), for the price he was doing them it was a no-brainer really.

Hi Keith.
Assuming you live in Suffolk then I am local to you and you would be more than welcome to use
my folder.
If I have remembered correctly you bought my old Sure Weld TIG off me, and then left the country
in favour of the land of monsters, or perhaps it is the loch of monsters.
Anyway the folder is a 4' x 16g jobbie and coped with my 4mm thick stainless ones no prob.
Cheers,
Paul G
Hi Paul
Yes I did buy your Tig and I do spend most winters in Scotland but this year has been a bit of a muddle.
Thanks for the offer of your folder I will be in touch.
Thanks for the help Paul.
I hope you enjoyed your bike ride
