Welding mask respirators

Dunno if this topic is a bit out of the way of the forum, but anyway here goes. I was wondering about the carbon filters in the respirators that I was going to get from 3M. The reason is that I bought an air purifier not so long ago that had a carbon filter in it, and I had to get rid of the thing because I started to get a bit dizzy, and tired when I was working with it in my bedroom.
So basically, what I'm asking is, has anyone else had any problems with carbon based welding masks? If I get a mask and have problems with it, can I weld without one?

Sorry if this a bit esoteric, but I was curious to know if anyone else has had these problems. Cheers, ben

(BTW happy new year everyone )

Carbon filters should not cause any effects like that. Did the air purifier have an ioniser built in? These can produce a small amount of zone which in sensitive people can cause headaches, eye irritation and coughing.

Ok thanks Mike, I'll give the respirator a whirl.
