Yep good basic diagnostics instead of relying on a computer and replacing random parts.

I bought a car with a similar fault. An auto electrition had charged the last owner for a few visits including sending the ecu off twice for "repair" then re flashing and recoding of the Immobilizer. A quick look round with a meter found a power supply fault. I just need some time to locate the break now.
