Is black jack (cv grease) a good alternative to silicone grease?

Took the caliper carriers out the bath this morning and one of the seals is split so ordered a new one off the bay..

In the meantime I'm going to build them back up so I can move the car and the best stuff I have is the cv grease. It's the same stuff we use on the fifth wheel at work and the stuff seems impervious to water and makes a right mess of your clothes, hands face and anything else you come into contact with!

is this for the sliding bits ?,i have always used copperslip. for seals or anything internal there is a red brake grease.

Trouble with normal greases, including copper slip and moly is that they react with the seals on the calipers (including the slide ones) and make them either perish or go sticky because they are almost always natural rubber.

That's why silicone grease is the stuff to use on slidey brake bits

Yep, it's the sliders....

Thing is the sliders that wasn't stuck had hardly anything left and it was white and canny stiff...

I've just done a steering rack that called for silicone grease.

You would be amazed at how hard it is to find. Any way carplan do it in little tubes for a couple of quid and it can also be found on eBay.
