Stopped off at a new Toolstation branch today in Perth. They are advertising £5 off when you spend £25 so thought I would get myself a good old bolt
down engineers vice. 100mm vice £27, £22 after offer. Alarm bells rang when I seen the Silverline box :-0. Took it home, bolted it down to my bench
and started pressing polybushes into my wishbones and surprise surprise the main vice screw stripped half-way through the job.
Must remember to avoid silverline tools, many years ago I had a pair of their pipe plyers break and very nearly ripped my hand open. On complaining
they said their tools were for light DIY use only.
Are the vices out of machine mart any better?
Record vices take some beating, I saw a write uo on the internet where a MM vice had broken in two.

Good advice, ill look for a record vice, more expensive but not going to fail and injure me!
silverline=kiss ofdeath
I spend alot of time/money in my local toolstation. The staff freely admit that the silverline stuff is a PITA and a lot gets returned....
Silverline kit is cheap for sure, but it's not great! I've tried it in past and ended up dunking it for better.
