Q-Max hole punches
David Jenkins - 13/10/05 at 01:10 PM

Anyone know a cheap source for these things?

There's a fair bit of price-fixing going on with these - if you look at a general tool supplier you'll see that the prices are quite reasonable up to 50mm, or 55mm onwards, but strangely the 52mm is often not listed.

Go to a car-related site and you'll find that the 52mm punch is far more expensive than either the 50mm or 55mm on the other sites.

Is this because almost all small car gauges require a 52mm hole...
...or am I being paranoid?

David

NB: Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that they aren't out to get you!

Apart from some other jobs I have at the back of my mind, I want to put a row of holes at the rear of my bonnet, at the sides. Having spent ages making my bonnet look tidy, I don't want to cock it up with a wonky or mis-shapen set of holes!

You really can't beat a Q-Max (or similar) for making an extremely neat hole, and they make it easy to place the holes exactly where you want them (if you take care in marking out in the first place).

David

Can't see the 52mm one for £17????

They aren't in order - they seem to list them randomly each time you go in. Do a search on part number QMA52M.

You'll also need a L-shaped 14mm hex key with a decent length on the 'handle' side, which they'll sell you if you haven't got one.
