I have recently bought this welder. It is supposed to have 2 different welding options. One is MIG and I don't know the other one's name in
English. Maybe Flux Cored? Now I would like to know, how to use the second welding option(Flux Cored). I have tried today, but it doesn't work.
And here's a link about migmatic 171 http://www.itw-welding.co.uk/uploads/pdf/Migmatic%20171%20UK%20address%20March%202003.pdf
Btw, I'm not building a sports car, but I thought maybe You can help me?
by flux core, im guessing you mean gasless welding? This would basically be mig welding without the gas. It has a bad reputation to be honest, most who have tried it were not impressed, though some have reported acceptable results. My personal opinion would be not to bother with it
You need to swap the earth cable to the other polarity usually Sten. Is there a switch or another socket for the earth lead to plug into?

agree with joel, gasless is about as usefull as a chocolate teapot(as we angols say),stay with gas
Flux Core doesn't need any gas, that's true. But as I understand, gasless welding should be able to weld thicker metals.
When i tried gasless welding today, i putted the ground wire (earth?) in one socket and the electrode stick wire in the other socket. I left the
polarity switching wire free.
One problem could be, that the electric outlet didn't have 2 fases ( ? ). So I'll try to build a matching electric outlet and I'll try
again then.
Thank you for your fast responses and think, what could be wrong?
by looking at the picture i think the earth and live are interchangable, try earth lead in + and other to torch.the fly lead looks like it plugs into the torch
Take the wire out of the + socket on the welder and put it in the - , that's all you need to do. Make sure you have the correct tip and a knurled drive roller and you may need more wire speed than with gas, mine seemed to when I tried it. It's not a Miller but it works the same. The torch is a standard euro fitting same as yours.
