B&Q are selling off tiddlypeep 6 litre 1.5hp 115psi 7cfm/4.5l FAD for 52 quid
That includes usual air accesories ie tyre inflator, gravity spray gun blow gun oil gun AND nail gun.

I have had a couple of these for while -- can highly recommend for light use not enough for serious air tools unless you have more than one coupled together.

Any good for spraying? Or is the cfm to small??

Any pictures or links??

I don't need a nail gun but could do with one for spraying.

ive used a similar one for spraying makes the job about 10 times harder

You could spray with 7 CFM but i think the size of it would let it down.

on a previous thread, someone linked http://www.transtools.co.uk , they have a 3hp 50 litre one for £100, inc vat and delivery. Thats the cheapest 3hp one i could find. Anyone know cheaper new?

I bought that 3hp one from Transtools and am quite pleased with it so far, although i have only really played with it.

Note that it comes with absolutely no other items, tools, quick releases etc, just a bare compressor. I still thought it was decent value at that price though. Obviously it has limitations, but then again so do i

i just brought a 5hp 14cfm 80ltr upright for £210 new of a guy on ebay well enough for any garage
can keep up wi drills , d.a ,guns ,spraying if anyones interested ill see if i can find his details

sounds good, but im going to combine the 3hp50 one with the current 1.5/24 one i have and an air tank, should be ok in total. How do you wire in the 5hp one? does it have soft start?

Perfect for air duster, tyre inflator and even air drill (reasonable sized bits of course).

It doesnt however run a 3/8 ratchet which is a shame cos it should if the CFM and pressure figures are to be believed.

Anyone know how much juice an air riveter needs? I tend not to worry about manufacturers CFM claims as they seem to have little relevance in use.

Edit: Length of hose can make a difference, I have a 50' one for reaching out into the drive but I have a feeling this is costing a lot of pressure, anyone know if the coily ones are any good? cos I have a feeling these will be the same due to their tiny inside diamater.

Regarding the comments about soft start for a 5hp motor. Would this possibly be an issue on a 3hp motor.

Sometimes i start the compressor and it turns very slowly then trips out. I have noticed that it starts easier when connected directly to the socket, rather than through a coiled extension. I assume that the load is borderline, especially when using the coiled extension?

I have yet to permanently locate the compressor and make a lead long enough to reach the socket, so i have to temporarily use an extension.

you could well suffer a large current draw when it fires up, which could trip the breaker. Soft start gets it going with no load, to soften the start!

Will one of these small compressors supply enough air to run a +ve displacement mask?

This is usually because there is still pressure in the cylinder. There is a bleed tube to release this pressure to the safety valve on the compressor body, check that it is working.

second that, could be worth letting the air out before you start it especially when its cold

also if using an extension have fully uncoiled that wont be helping and it will get very hot and melt

Yep without doubt, run it with as little extension as possible and with suitable fuse protection. Im quite lucky as mine sits near to the socket, if it didnt though, Id be hard wiring another cable from the breaker box to give it more juice.

Further to my comment about hose length affecting things - Ive just hacked my hose in halve and its made a huge difference. The 3/8 ratchet is now working and is enough to "nip up" up to 17mm nuts, no problem when youre using a torque wrench anyway.

Just got my air riveter today and it works flawlessly. I only tried up to about 6mm rivets but they are fine.
Just shows, you can do ok with a middle of the road compressor without spending the earth. Im chuffed with the performance of mine considering it was just £88 including del.

a local trade centre, stax in morley, has a .75hp 6 litre compressor in stock, its about £25 and comes with a coiled hose and an air nail gun. Pretty shite for most things but ideal for stuff like riveters etc.

Sealey have a nice 1 in there jan sale. 50l direct drive compressor 3.0hp for £223 inc

same spec from transtools is £104 delievered.

Same spec, not the same quality. I have a Valley one from transtools and although fine, not a patch on a Sealey. Depends how much longevity you need I reckon.
