Best Mig welder for around £400
R1minimagic - 20/1/06 at 05:20 PM

Hi

Any opinions on the best mig welder that can be bought for around £400? I want one with a euro torch and am thinking of a sealey 185amp or a sip Topmig?

Cheers

Right, £400 is just about the right price to get a really nice machine......good choice of budget for a start!!

I bought an "ERP" machine from WeldUK ltd, for exactly £400 a few years ago. They are about that price now still though.

ERP is basically a machine made in the same factory in Italy that the Sealey machines are made in, identical machine but lower price!

I have the 210 amp one I think it is, and it has been faultless, made my old Clarke 150 TE thing seem so shite it's unbelieveable!!

Has a Euro torch etc, takes the 15Kg rolls, step on the back for a big bottle, really strong wheels, super flexible torch lead for getting into tight spots, all in all a really good piece of equipment.

It welds 8mm and 10mm plate nicely on full bore. Welded the fabricated rear hubs for my grasser from 10mm plate really well.

I paid c £400 for my Lincoln Electric 185 a while ago from BOC. I'm very pleased with it. They have sales and were open to a bit of haggling

I won't buy SIP again --- although the Top MIG is lot better than other SIPs for 400 notes you can get better

I got a sip 195 about 4 years ago and its not been the best, it was close to £500 and the feed wire mech only works when it wants to.

Very cheap inners for such a lot of money.
