Compressor
dern - 24/2/06 at 08:32 PM

I asked ages ago about advice on getting a compressor and finally got around to getting one. I bought a 100L upright valley compressor from transtools and can recommend both the compressor and transtools. I have no experience of compressors at all and have only had the thing for a few days but it's already proved a superb tool in conjunction with some cheap airtools in stripping down my blade (bike) to fix the head race bearing and to do a service. Transtools are great too, very quick delivery and available on the phone to answer some dumb-arse questions from me on how to turn the thing on for the first time.

That's it really, just a quick recommendation.

Regards,

Mark

PS. Have no connection with transtools or valley.

I've seen this and wondered if its worth it as a hobby kit, the price is keen enough

Thanks for the recommend i was looking at the 100 ltr model as well for my mini resortation, for the spraying of the car.

I would of thought a 3hp 100ltr would be big enough to spray.

costo do some good deals on comps. come with tools etc. more than the aldi jobs but you get what you pay for.

Hope so, my next project will need some paint work. Should be ok I would have thought... but have no experience to base that on

that aldi deal is very good, considering it includes some tools. You could buy two for £120, sell the spares on ebay, and have 4hp on the go. Tanks are small but thats not the end of the world.

I have a 3hp Vtwin 50ltr and it will fill up while I use my gravity gun without the pressure dropping at the gun. It's a 12cfm pump and gives about 8cfm free air delivery. It runs at 150psi, the smaller ones run at 125psi and two 2hp will not = a 4hp just give you a faster recovery rate than one while using twice as much power and making twice as much noise. I had a smaller one years ago and it was handy for touching up and inflating stuff.

would you agree you would have twice either the fad or cfm? more noise admittedly, but it would, IMHO, be not far off as efficient as a single 4hp unit.

the aldi compressor only comes into stock next week apparently got myself a £9 grinder though!

Bob C - 25/2/06 at 06:30 PM

I just bought the £9 grinder. It feels solid enough & has 3yr warranty (& spare set of brushes!). I can't believe it will only last 1/10 as long as a bosch one - time will tell (maybe I should have bought 10. . . )
I'm addicted to those aldi special deals - I got their generator (used once, unnecessarily). I'm SO tempted bythe compressor. . . . .

its adictive, isnt it?! nearly got the electric impact wrench too, but thought it a bit unnecessary as ive got the air one.

One question, can you buy tee pieces for air hoses or will i have to bodge something together myself?

omega 24 v6 - 25/2/06 at 10:12 PM

I know you can buy Ypeices Joel we've got em at work.

JoelP - 25/2/06 at 10:19 PM

nice one i need me a few then

Bob C - 25/2/06 at 11:22 PM

must own up - I got the electric impact wrench too. . . . Used it twice already (so a comparatively useful buy...). My 11 yr old daughter took the wheel nuts off my pug that were simply bending the car's wheel wrench (after getting stranded in dark & rain in the middle of nowhere it seemed prudent to copperslip all the bolts!)

PS air impact wrenches are loads better than electric.....

Also bought the electric impact wrench but it broke almost immediately. They gave me the choice of another and money back with no quibbles at all so took money back as it was a bit crap really.

i got a y piece from machinemart today, about £14 with quick release fittings. The compressors are apparently in stock at aldi but they wont put them out til tomorrow, so tomorrow evening, i will let you all know how well two compressors work together.
