I have a daft problem- removing masking tape thats been in place for a couple of years...
its coming off in tiny strips- nightmare!!
adhesive remover is taking paint too...;-(
any suggestions?
Just paint over it?
on what?
brake cleaner should do it without interfering with the paint.
if not, steam?
tom
hair dryer? Or use a product called Gelsol made by Autosmart, we use it at work for taking livery off trucks (well the adhesive remains of the livery)
If it's on GRP - brake cleaner or carb cleaner and then Farecla G3 paste.

There's always some smart-arse who tells you things after it's too late, but...
Ordinary masking tape (the creamy-white crinkly stuff) should be removed as soon as it's done its job, i.e. once the paint's not going to
run where it shouldn't.
There are other tapes that can be left on longer (I've got some green stuff) but even that has instructions that say that the max time is a week
or so.
To remove the glue, I've got some stuff called "sticky stuff remover" that smells of oranges and works on most dried glue - it's
never taken paint off either. Available in most supermarkets, DIY stores, etc.

White Spirit often dos the job...
I seem to remember in the depths of my brain that baby oil may do the trick.Prepack will work as well but does affect new paint if you rub too hard.
Isopropyl Alcohol works wonders on adhesive and doesn't affect paint
thanks guys....
try petrol. I had some tape on my carb vents and the glue went all sticky so going on from this, wet the tape with petrol and the glue will soften. paraffin is good for removgin residue and neither seems to damage paint.
we know baby oil does the trick but what about the tape question?
