Is this swaging

When you get a tube or pipe with a lip so that when you clip a rubber hose on to it, it will not pull off. Or is this called something else.

Also anyone know wherer to get a too that does this.

Frosts do a tool for this but it is not locost (£400 plus).
i got my ali pipes ready flared from mac#1 along with Samco hose for very reasonable price.

That's a 'bead' I think (think swaging is bending around a hole in sheet to make it stiffer).

See

The thing made out of a vice is definately the 'lowcost' solution...

I've got one

I made it myself

Similar principal to a knurling tool.
It works best in a lathe but you can use it in a vice.
Photo in archive tomorrow for anyone who fancies making one.

Easy way to make a tool is get an old pair of pliers, a ball bearing (size depending on the size of the flare you want) and a nut (sized so the ball bearing sits inside it.

Weld or otherwise attach the ball bearing and nut to the pliers one on each side, then put the wall of the pipe in between and squeeze.

Go round the pipe and repeat. If you are using a jubilee clip only four points are probably needed to hold the pipe on.

It is a bead.

best way for us to do it on 8mm copper tube is to get some 8mm olives from the plumbers merchant & solder them on
